establishing internet connection thorugh gprs in ubuntu
one of the difficulties with gnu/linux as many people have pointed out was lack of nokia pc suite for establishing a gprs internet connection. last day i have succesfully configured wvdial to work with a nokia phone with gprs internet facility. the solution is given below
connect the phone to pc thrugh usb data cable.
open a terminal and execute the command sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
read the echoed messages on the terminal.
the above command configures the /etc/wvdial.conf file to an extend.
open /etc/wvdial.conf (the command is sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf)
on seeing the file one will able to identify the modifications to be made.
close the file.
inorder to connect to internet.
execute the command wvdial
to terminate connection press cntrl + c

science camp by agragami
the post is about the science camp being conducted by agragami, an organisation at ulliyeri(the panchayath to which i belong to). the program, a science camp, was held on 30th of april, wedneday, 2k8.
The program is meant for high scholl students, and there were 45 participants.
Started with a talk on "theory of evoulution". The after noon was meant for a collective learning experiment and i was fortunate to be the co-ordinator of the collective learning program.
The first challenge i faced was to make the children speak freely, with out any fear and inhibition. The ice breaking attempt revolved through a tiger exercise, whistling, discussion about films. The lunch was served by the participants them them selves, as a social transactions experiment. The after noon section straight away moved on to a few theoretical discussion about science and discussions about a few scientific theories. Then there were a few group discussion sessions.
The topic given for discussion was "do we need language to thing". The discussions were held on multiple levels, and finally concluded that language is not necessary for thinking, and which is quiet contrary to my argument on this topic.
Then an experiment which involved all the students were conducted to give them a feel of evolution theory.
